I paint Ireland because the light won't hold still
I've lived in Mayo long enough to know the light here won't sit still. It comes in off the Atlantic, lands on a bog for about eleven seconds and is gone, and most days I'm the eejit in a field with a brush trying to catch it. Mostly that field is in the west. Sometimes it's the Burren, or Killarney, or a wet afternoon on Stephen's Green.
Every painting here is an original in oil, done by hand in my studio in Mayo. Plenty didn't work. The ones on this site did. By day I write for the Western People, which mostly means I'm paid to have opinions. Here I keep them to the canvas.
